19 September 2008 - 15:12Where’s Zaibatsu?
===========
Summary
===========
Zaibatsu linked to a picture of a digg user on their site.
User redirected photo to their shop.
digg banned Zaibatsu for “submit[ing] stories or comments linking to affiliate programs”
===========
As of right now, I’m unable to access Zaibatsu’s digg page.
(redirects to http://digg.com/error)
My account on digg was deleted once before (error on my part) but reinstated when I emailed them.
It’s no big deal when they delete my account but its pretty strange when they delete an account belonging to one of the top 3 users without a word of explanation..
Is anyone else able to access his account? Or is it just a glitch in my browser?
I’m hoping this is a temporary glitch and will be sorted out soon.
===========
update 1:
===========
spoke with zaibatsu and I hope it will be sorted out soon.
If they had a problem at least they could have talked with him
In Reddits case they always contact you if they have a problem with something instead of just banning you.
I’ve known zaibatsu for some time now and in all the time I’ve known him, I can confirm I’ve never seen him take advantage of his position on digg. I hope digg fixes this soon because zai is one of the few 100% decent people I know there.
===========
Update2
===========
NOTE: neither of the links work but from what I remember, they pointed to photos on a website at first, later they were redirected to some sort of shop/merchandise page (after zaibatsu submitted them, the site owner appears to have redirected the links)
Anyway, here is the full email exchange between RJ and Digg
Hello R.J.,
Thanks for contacting us at Digg.com. At this time, we are unable to remove the ban on your account.

Guys, hey I didn’t know that a picture of a female digger was against the TOS. I didn’t even know that she was selling something on the site. I’ve submitted over 3000 - 4000 articles and I’ve been on Digg since month 1. I definitely didn’t try and promote a site to sell a product. I really have tried to be a good digger.
Is there anyway that you could reinstate my account?

Digg user Zaibatsu,
Your account has been banned for violating the Digg Terms of Service
(digg.com/tos) that you agreed to. From our TOS:
“By way of example, and not as a limitation, you agree not to use the
Services:
to submit stories or comments linking to affiliate programs, multi-
level marketing schemes, sites/blogs repurposing existing stories
(source hops), or off-topic content;
to advertise to, or solicit, any user to buy or sell any products or
services. It is also a violation of these rules to use any information
obtained from the Services in order to contact, advertise to, solicit,
or sell to any user without their prior explicit consent;
The offending submission(s) are provided below:

We want to make clear that the images submitted did not constitute the
ban, but the content of the domain itself, as it is spam and a
solicitation of products and/or services (http://www.jackiesjungle.com/want-a-piece-of-me
).
